When to Vote, and How to Register to Vote:

Important Dates to Remember:


~ Deadline to Register to Vote: Oct 9, 2020 - Application must be postmarked, or received in person by Oct 9. Exception is if you are honorably discharged from the military or have become a naturalized citizen after Oct 9, then you have until Oct 24 to hand deliver your applications.


~ Deadline for Change of Address: Must be received by Oct 14 in order to vote in the General Election.


~Early Voting Dates for General Election: Oct 24 - Nov 1, 2020


~General Election 2020: Nov 3, 2020, 6:00am to 9:00pm

In New York State, you must register in advance before you can vote.


In order to register to vote, you must meet the following requirements:

  • be a United States citizen;
  • be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file the registration form (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote);
  • resident of NY state and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election;
  • not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction (unless parolee pardoned or restored rights of citizenship);
  • not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;
  • not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
